No one could deny that entrances were highly thought of these days. Rumours are spread about how great heroes appear, out of the mist, out of oblivion, over the horizon and into the sweet, golden sunshine. All eyes would turn to them as they approach, and the crowds might cheer or fall silent as all watched this incredible being, this immortal. Appearances are vital, for that is all we are, isn't it? Illusions of the mind, there for the sight of others and little else. Illusions.
His own entrance to this new land was mediocre in comparison to these idealistic thoughts. The sun was not shining, the birds were not singing - there was, in fact, little display of beauty in the scene. It was raining, as could only be expected for this time of year, and he was wet, as could only be expected for this type of weather. Despite his muscular frame and thick fur, you could not help but see him as a little bedraggled as he waded through the tall grass, trying his best to ignore it's scratchy texture against his pelt. On any other day he might seem handsome and noble; and indeed he was - but the weeks of endless rain had taken it's effect on him. Endless rain, and endless seclusion, and endless fields stretching towards him. They must be packlands, he thought, for he could smell others. Yet the whole place seemed so drab and dull that he doubted there could be any life in a world like this. Still, misery creates illusions, just as happiness and anger can. And he had certainly had his share of sadness.
Tarin, they called him. Tarin the great, Prince Tarin, Tarin m'boy and that darn Tarin stole my kill, he did. Names of the past, yet he didn't have the heart to give it up. The past. Perhaps that was an illusion, too - for nothing existed left of it save for his memories, and since when could the mind be trusted? Perhaps he was an illusion. Perhaps this field - so beautiful in summer, he imagined, yet so drab and lifeless now - was an illusion. Perhaps life was an illusion. But be that so... what was death?
Here he was again, going off on his philosophical thoughts all by himself. He couldn't help but chuckle on this, shaking his head and moving on once more. The loneliness was driving him barmy. The sooner he met other wolves, the better. All of a sudden he stopped and drew back onto his haunches, cranium raised to the thundering heavens, and howled - a shattering, echoing sound, not quite threatening yet with a hint of self-pride in it. Be these wolves hostile, he was not afraid to fight. Yet he hoped they were not. He did so hope they were not...
((Blech. Sorry. Rabbiting on again, aren't I? Heh. I do that...))

Thaydon shot up from her place on the ground, as she had smelt someone among them. No, it wasn't a human, and no it wasn't someone from an opposing pack. Then who was it? They hadn't had new comers in over a year.
The rain continued to patter down on top of her. Her red pelt was now soaked and you could see the lining of her ribs. Yes, yet again there was little food and she tried not to eat too much, she didn't want to take too much from the pack. She was giving, and it was her job to look out for the pack.
Soon after she had shot up, there was a long, confident howl. She took off, running in which ever direction, dodging trees, bushes, birds, and whatever else lay in her way. She could smell the wolf know, probably male, she determined as she ran quickly toward the smell. The scent was getting stronger every step she took. And finally she saw the one she had being running after and she came to an abrupt halt.

His head shot up at the scent of another. He had half been expecting no one, yet this was much better than he had hoped. He hesitated, not quite wanting to move towards this coming creature, yet eager for the meeting of another. A smile spread across his maw as she came into sight and he took a few eager strides forward, stopping when she did. She was a little way in front of him, and he could see her properly. A pretty fae, a little younger than him. He guessed she was the alphess from her dominant stance. When she didn't introduce herself he took a step closer, dipping his head in a gesture of respect. "'Afternoon," he began, uncertain of exactly what to say. He had been travelling for a while, yes, but he had rare occassion to address others. "I hope I am not trespassing on your land?" His voice was deep and husky, like rippling dark silk - a little gruff sounding, yet pleasant to the ear.

Thaydon stumbled back a bit, surprised by his politeness. To her, usually when wolves were on her territory it was for a fight. She hesitated for a moment and bowed to him. "You are." She stated simply. "But so far, it's alright because you have come as no harm to my pack, I assume?" She asked, hoping her question didn't confuse him at all.
She looked up at him, she had to be careful, he was larger then her and he was older, she could tell. The rain began to fall down even faster and harder than before, she simply looked up at the sky and then back down to him.

Tarin let out a low, slight chuckle, shaking his head. "No, no, I would not dare attempt to harm your pack. That is, unless it attempts to harm me first." It was not intended as a threat, merely as a good-natured sort of challenge, and there was a smile on his lips as he spoke it. He did not seem to expect a reply, for he immediately went on to say; "Tarin's the name. You are the alphess, I take it?" His tone was rather businesslike, the original edge of humour gone, though he still smiled that same slight, amicable smile.

"Do we have a reason to harm you?" She asked, rather matter of factly. She didn't expect him to answer, seeing as by the time she had gotten that out, he was already on the next subject that was probably wandering around his mind."You assume correctly." Thaydon stated simply. This time she too smiled. "My name is Thaydon Blue, or just Thaydon." She spoke softly and quietly, trying to remain strong and confident.
How did she know whether or not he was telling the truth about him not harming her or her pack? She didn't know, so of course she had to stay alarm at all costs. And staying alert wasn't one of her qualities. Most of them, she was distracted easily.
She shivered slightly at the coldness that was eloping around her. She was skinny and didn't have a thick coat to keep her very warm. It was raining, and to be expected, she was drenched. She sighed and shook off as much of the extra water as she could.

"Probably no more a reason than I have to harm you," he retorted, quick as ever. He noticed she seemed rather wary of him. Oh, it could only be expected, though he still felt a little disgruntled. After all, he had told her of his good intentions, and he was an earnest enough sort of wolf.
Pushing it aside, he nodded in respect for this alphess. "Well. A pleasure to meet you, Thaydon Blue." Yet his smile fell slightly as he saw her shiver, pulling back a little as she sprayed him with water. "Oh, um... are you cold?" He stammered a little as he spoke, unsure of whether he should shuffle closer to keep her warm, or suggest they move somewhere else. He was fortunate that his coat was thick and his frame bulky, yet she, he could tell, would feel the cold. "We could... I mean, there's a patch of trees over there... you know, for shelter..." Why exactly this had suddenly made him nervous, he wasn't sure. Perhaps it was the thought that he ought to be the chivalrous brute and protect her. On the other hand, she was alphess, and a pretty fair looking one at that. She should be able to take care of herself.

Thaydon shivered yet again. "Yes of course I'm cold, I don't have much of a pelt and it's pouring out here." She said, a little ruder then intended. She smiled and shook her head again. "Sure." She said, standing up and walking over to a where a patch of trees covered the ground enough there was only a few drops falling down onto her.
She was to say the least, disappointed, but she didn't know why. She had only just met the brute and what did she expect, him to get close to her? She probably looked very foolish to him, not being able to warm herself. No, she would live with it until she was done talking to the kind wolf. She smiled yet again to him. "So, which pack are you from? If you don't mind me asking that is." She asked, unsure of what he would say.
She suddenly began to wonder, what happened if he was a traitor? Some sort of messenger for another pack? She couldn't put all of the packs life in danger, no she had to talk short, sweet, and to the point.

He was a little taken aback by her harsh reply. He had only meant it as a kind thought, after all. Yet he trotted by her side towards the trees, keeping a little way behind her so that she would not see his scowling, confused expression. You should have kept her warm, you know. You call yourself a brute? Hah! A grass snake has more manners than you.
Shaking it off, he gave a little smile at her question. He opened his mouth to answer, but stopped quite suddenly. He could see the doubt in her eyes. It ought not to have troubled him, he knew... but it did. He had no bad intentions to this pack - if anything, he had been hoping to join. But for this alphess to take one look at him and decide not to trust him...
"You don't trust me, do you?" he spoke abruptly, turning to look her in the eye. He laughed bitterly, sadly, almost. "I suppose it's not unreasonable. After all, you don't know a thing about me." He cleared his throat, speaking a little louder now, a little more determined. "My past is unimportant. You only have my word that I will pose no threat to you or your pack. I don't suppose it is enough, but it is all I can give you."

Thaydon was taken back by his question. "I never said that I didn't trust you." You know you don't. "It's only that I've just met you, and with my past it's hard to trust people. Even ones you thought you knew." She stated, simply.
She nodded her head lightly at his comment. "I'll hold that to you, kind sir." She said politely. Soon the rain let up and the clouds seem to float away from the sun. "Well, I suppose that is to be expected this time of year." She said, looking up at the sky.

"I suppose it is reasonable enough. Though if you were suspicious towards every stranger you meet, I very much doubt your pack would grow at all." There was, asalways, that hint of underlying humour to his voice, yet he said no more on the matter. Nor did he expect her to reply much, and of course she did not.
His ears pricked slightly at her comment and he paused, meeting her eye. "Yes, indeed" he murmered - thoughtfully, yet strangely he did not look at the sky but at her, his expression musing and slightly puzzled. He had not noticed it at first, but now, with the sunshine drifting down from the heavens once more, he noticed that she was indeed very pretty. Clearing his throat, he looked away, taking a few strides from her. "So then, Thaydon - ma'am. This pack of yours... is it large? Is there perhaps space for one more wolf among your ranks?" His gaze had drifted innocently to the illuminated leaves of the trees above, and the words were spoken somewhat absently, yet not without a faint smile.

Thaydon looked at him out of the corner of her eye and swore she had seen him staring at her. Her gaze didn't stay long, as the sun came clearly out from behind it's chamber. She finally noticed that he had asked a question and she straightened and sighed lightly. "It's not a terribly large pack, no. But it's fairly sized." Thaydon stated. She smiled. "I suppose we have room for one more. But, what ran is this kind sir seeking?" She asked. Very rarely did she ask a wolf what rank it was looking to possess, very rarely.

Tarin gave the tiniest of shrugs. "I care little for ranks - it is the company I desire most. Perhaps a warrior, if you need one. I very much doubt you would need a lead warrior, but... well, I know the ways of battle well. My father..." He stopped abruptly, forcing a smile. "Warrior would suit me fine, if there is an open place." That had been close. He couldn't help but curse himself silently for such a foolish blunder. He could tell no one, he must tell no one, he...

ooc// Sorry, I had to go eat.
bic// She sighed slightly. "Company is always good." Thaydon stated simply. Was it him that didn't trust her? What was it that he wasn't telling her? She shook the thoughts away and nodded to him. "We do need a lead warrior in fact. She smiled and sat down on the wet ground and picked a paw up, licking it and pulling out a few thorns that were stuck on the paw.
She set the paw back down and looked up at him. She smiled lightly and looked more closely at him, he was a rather handsome brute. He looked strong and intelligent.

He looked up, somewhat surprised. "I... thank you. For your kindness, that is. And for trusting me." He didn't realise how ridiculous he sounded until it came out, and he forced an embarassed laugh, looking down at his paws. "Well, you know. I mean, you don't really know anything about me. Nor I you, for that matter. I'm little more than a traveller in your lands - we're practically strangers..." He realised he was blabbering again and felt his face flush, muttering an apology. Why did he feel so flustered all of a sudden? He was usually so cool and collected, and yet here he was, blubbering away. He had never felt so self-conscious before. It was as though he couldn't put a paw wrong - he had to do everything right, he had to impress her...
Trying to get rid of those bizarre thoughts, he forced his gaze up to the sky, now partially hidden through the branches so high above. He shot a glance at Thaydon out of the corner of his eye, shuffling his paws rather nervously. "Would you, er... I mean, the sun's come out, and it would be nice to py our drelts... I - I mean, dry our pelts... You know, a little stroll, like." He gave a weak gesture towards the stretch of field before them.

She smiled, he was making no sense at all. Yet, she knew exactly what he was trying to say. Nodding her head lightly. "Yes, we are strangers." She stated. She wasn't sure why, but she didn't like the thought of barely knowing him.
She smiled. "That sounds lovely." She replied. So, they were going to walk around, together. Maybe this would be a good chance to get to know him a little bit better. She sighed. Which direction?" She wasn't sure, but he made her feel very, how should she put it? Self-conscious. Yes, that was it. [/center]

"Great! Er..." He looked around, a little awkwardly. Which direction? "I don't know, I mean, we could go wherever. It's your pack, after all." He gave a little shrug, hoping he wasn't seeming too weak-minded. Good god, was he acting too weak-minded? Clearing his throat, he stood a little taller. "West would be nice. The sun will be setting soon, after all." His voice was strong and determined now, though it quavered a little towards the end. "That is, if you want to..."

Thaydon looked over to the wolf and chuckled lightly. "West sounds nice, that's the direction of the dens too." She stated. She smiled then looked up at the sky, indeed the sun would be setting soon. It would be getting late and she had to get home to the pack soon, or Angeli would have a fit.
ooc// Sorry about the short post.
